Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Lahore to review the overall law and order situation in Punjab.
The meeting decided to ensure the writ of the state and strict implementation of the law across the province. The Punjab government has decided to recommend a federal ban on an extremist group to curb militant activities.
It was also resolved to include the leadership of the group in the Fourth Schedule, while its properties and assets will be handed over to the Auqaf Department. Moreover, all posters, banners, advertisements, and social media accounts linked to the organization will be banned immediately.
The Punjab government has further decided to launch an operation against illegal Afghan nationals, directing authorities to bring Afghan citizens into the tax net and prepare real-time data of undocumented migrants. A combing operation will target illegal residents and their unregistered businesses.
Additionally, the cabinet approved a 14-year prison sentence and a Rs. 2 million fine for possession of illegal firearms.
